Fighting for Our Community

Every Californian has a right to choose what happens with their own body, full stop. A woman’s right to choose is nonnegotiable—Eli has always been a champion for reproductive freedom, and will never compromise on this most fundamental of human rights.

Reproductive Freedom

Eli’s goal is to make sure that every senior has access to affordable healthcare, housing, and food; reliable transportation; and opportunities to connect, learn, and grow. As Mayor, Eli has been a champion for local seniors, supporting the nonprofits that serve older adults while creating a new Intergenerational Center to provide seniors with free classes, activities, and connection.

Protecting our Seniors

If politicians want the public’s trust, they need to earn it. Eli is the only candidate who goes out of his way to post his voting record online, because he believes that you deserve to know how he voted and why on every major issue.

Transparency

No matter who you are or what you do, workers deserve dignity and respect. That means fair treatment, a wage you can live off, and safe working conditions. Under his leadership, Corte Madera became the first city in Marin to adopt a long-range blueprint for protecting homes and businesses from flooding and wildfire. He helped champion a sensible pro-housing plan that provides for new affordable housing while preserving the community’s small-town charm, and which went on to win statewide awards. And he helped turn around the town’s finances, creating a rainy day fund while reining in the government’s pension debt.On a regional scale, he’s helped bring the price of green energy below PG&amp;E’s price for dirty energy as a board member of MCE Clean Energy. He helped lead the push for central Marin’s wastewater treatment plant to become a national leader in generating renewable energy to power its own operations, saving taxpayers more than a million dollars a year in energy costs, all while recycling water to reduce waste. And he's stood up for Marin &amp; Sonoma communities as the North Bay Division president of CalCities, making our voices heard in Sacramento.Over his 7+ years in public service, Eli has earned a reputation beyond Corte Madera for leadership that’s thoughtful, honest, straightforward, and collaborative. But more than that, he brings a compassionate and positive approach to his service that can feel increasingly&nbsp; absent from today's politics—as he calls it, public service with a smile.

From flooding to wildfire, the effects of climate change are an existential threat to our homes and businesses. Every solution must be on the table to address this crisis, with a focus on driving down the cost of decarbonization so that families, businesses, and government can afford to take the steps necessary to address this threat.

Climate Change

It’s getting harder and harder to afford a life here, and it will take bold action to reverse this problem. As a lifelong resident of the district and a local small business owner, Eli knows firsthand the challenges of living and working in such an expensive place, and he knows that it will take a fundamental change in Sacramento’s mindset to address this challenge. That’s why Eli pledges to evaluate every vote he is asked to take with one simple question: will this make things more expensive or more affordable, both now and in the future?

Cost of Living

Our public education system used to be one of our state’s biggest competitive advantages, and we need to get back to investing in our children. Every Californian deserves access to free, high-quality education from pre-K through a 4 year degree or trade program. Eli is a proud product of California public schools, from kindergarten through college, so he knows the value of a good public education, In the Assembly, Eli will fight every day to make sure every Californian has that same opportunity.

We are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth—and this privilege comes with the responsibility to protect it. Eli understands how our health and our economy rely on a healthy planet that’s functioning the way it was meant to. That’s why restoring our environment and meeting California’s pledge to protect or conserve 30% of the state’s land and waters by 2030 is a top priority for Eli.

Environment

Every one of us has a right to quality, affordable healthcare, period. No Californian should have to choose between healthcare and groceries, and every one of us deserves access to free preventative care and affordable prescriptions. We need to train thousands of new medical professionals, and to make sure that all Californians—especially in remote, rural, or underserved communities—have access to clinics. Leading his city through COVID, Mayor Beckman helped create free vaccination clinics in public spaces to help keep the community healthy and safe.

Healthcare

Every Californian deserves access to affordable housing within a reasonable distance of where they work, and every Californian should have the opportunity to establish homeownership—especially those from disadvantaged communities. But we need to be strategic about where we build new housing: density belongs along real transit corridors and near major employment centers—not in remote communities, and not in flood or fire zones. In Corte Madera, Eli built a coalition to support reasonable pro-housing policies that resulted in the approval of the largest affordable housing development in Corte Madera’s history, while at the same time preserving the community’s small-town charm and natural beauty—policies that all local communities should be empowered to pursue.

If they succeed, California voters could permanently lose our ability to stop Congress from passing backwards laws that directly harm us, our communities, and our state as a whole—and we cannot let that happen. “That is why I strongly support the package of bills moving through the State Legislature to counter this brazen scheme: ACA 8 by Speaker Rivas and Pro Tem McGuire, AB 604 by Asm. Aguiar-Curry and Sen. Gonzalez, and SB 280 by Sen. Cervantes and Asm. Pellerin. Together, these bills provide a clear plan to ensure that Californians retain fair representation in Congress, while providing an off-ramp to de-escalate this national crisis. “Let’s be clear: partisan districts that silence debate are always bad for our country, and we must never lose sight of that truth—but allowing one party to shut the other out of Congress entirely is even worse. It is critical to the future of our democracy that both parties give up gerrymandering together, and it’s clear to me that our best chance of making that happen is by ensuring that gerrymandering benefits neither party, rather than only one party. California’s proposal would do exactly that. “Rather than allowing California’s voice to be diminished, we are fighting back: by trusting voters, protecting fair maps, and keeping elections free from manipulation. These measures are about protecting the principle that voters should choose their leaders, not the other way around. “I am proud to stand with the leaders of our state working to ensure fair representation in Congress, and to block this dangerous power grab by an extremist political movement. California is saying loud and clear: we will protect our democracy, and we will protect the voice of every voter.” ABOUT ELI Eli is a lifelong resident of the 12th Assembly District. He is a product of the district’s public schools, and attended Cal Poly’s school of architecture. He is a small business owner, and founder and CEO of HAUS+, a sustainable prefab ADU company. In 2018, Eli was elected to the Corte Madera Town Council, becoming the youngest elected official in Marin while earning the most votes in Corte Madera history, and in 2020, he became Corte Madera’s youngest, first Jewish, and first openly LGBT mayor. Eli has represented Marin and Sonoma communities in Sacramento through CalCities for 7 years, and has served on the board of multiple regional agencies, including MCE Clean Energy and Transportation Authority of Marin.
