Fighting for Our Community

Every Californian has a right to choose what happens with their own body, full stop. A woman’s right to choose is nonnegotiable—Eli has always been a champion for reproductive freedom, and will never compromise on this most fundamental of human rights.

Reproductive Freedom

Eli’s goal is to make sure that every senior has access to affordable healthcare, housing, and food; reliable transportation; and opportunities to connect, learn, and grow. As Mayor, Eli has been a champion for local seniors, supporting the nonprofits that serve older adults while creating a new Intergenerational Center to provide seniors with free classes, activities, and connection.

Protecting our Seniors

If politicians want the public’s trust, they need to earn it. Eli is the only candidate who goes out of his way to post his voting record online, because he believes that you deserve to know how he voted and why on every major issue.

Transparency

No matter who you are or what you do, workers deserve dignity and respect. That means fair treatment, a wage you can live off, and safe working conditions. When he’s not working, Eli’s favorite activities are the ones that celebrate our home’s natural beauty and history: exploring the tidepools of the Pacific coast, hiking the Mt. Tamalpais watershed, or exploring the historic adobes of Sonoma.California's 12th Assembly District includes all of Marin County including the cities of San Rafael, Novato, Mill Valley, Larkspur, San Anselmo, Corte Madera, Tiburon, Fairfax, Sausalito, Ross and Belvedere. Flooding and fire threaten our homes and infrastructure. The cost of living climbs ever higher for families trying to make ends meet. A historic budget surplus has become a yawning deficit. To turn this situation around, we must fix the broken systems that got us here and make bold moves that will put our state on a path to finally address our climate, housing, and cost of living challenges.That’s exactly what Eli’s done in Corte Madera, positioning the town as a leader on climate resilience, responsible housing policy, and good governance—even while guiding his community through the depths of the pandemic. Under his leadership, Corte Madera became the first city in Marin to adopt a long-range blueprint for protecting homes and businesses from flooding and wildfire. He helped champion a sensible pro-housing plan that provides for new affordable housing while preserving the community’s small-town charm, and which went on to win statewide awards. And he helped turn around the town’s finances, creating a rainy day fund while reining in the government’s pension debt.On a regional scale, he’s helped bring the price of green energy below PG&amp;E’s price for dirty energy as a board member of MCE Clean Energy. He helped lead the push for central Marin’s wastewater treatment plant to become a national leader in generating renewable energy to power its own operations, saving taxpayers more than a million dollars a year in energy costs, all while recycling water to reduce waste. And he's stood up for Marin &amp; Sonoma communities as the North Bay Division president of CalCities, making our voices heard in Sacramento.Over his 7+ years in public service, Eli has earned a reputation beyond Corte Madera for leadership that’s thoughtful, honest, straightforward, and collaborative. But more than that, he brings a compassionate and positive approach to his service that can feel increasingly&nbsp; absent from today's politics—as he calls it, public service with a smile.

From flooding to wildfire, the effects of climate change are an existential threat to our homes and businesses. Every solution must be on the table to address this crisis, with a focus on driving down the cost of decarbonization so that families, businesses, and government can afford to take the steps necessary to address this threat.

Climate Change

It’s getting harder and harder to afford a life here, and it will take bold action to reverse this problem. As a lifelong resident of the district and a local small business owner, Eli knows firsthand the challenges of living and working in such an expensive place, and he knows that it will take a fundamental change in Sacramento’s mindset to address this challenge. That’s why Eli pledges to evaluate every vote he is asked to take with one simple question: will this make things more expensive or more affordable, both now and in the future?

Cost of Living

Our public education system used to be one of our state’s biggest competitive advantages, and we need to get back to investing in our children. Every Californian deserves access to free, high-quality education from pre-K through a 4 year degree or trade program. Eli is a proud product of California public schools, from kindergarten through college, so he knows the value of a good public education, In the Assembly, Eli will fight every day to make sure every Californian has that same opportunity.

We are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth—and this privilege comes with the responsibility to protect it. Eli understands how our health and our economy rely on a healthy planet that’s functioning the way it was meant to. That’s why restoring our environment and meeting California’s pledge to protect or conserve 30% of the state’s land and waters by 2030 is a top priority for Eli.

Environment

Every one of us has a right to quality, affordable healthcare, period. No Californian should have to choose between healthcare and groceries, and every one of us deserves access to free preventative care and affordable prescriptions. We need to train thousands of new medical professionals, and to make sure that all Californians—especially in remote, rural, or underserved communities—have access to clinics. Leading his city through COVID, Mayor Beckman helped create free vaccination clinics in public spaces to help keep the community healthy and safe.

Healthcare

Every Californian deserves access to affordable housing within a reasonable distance of where they work, and every Californian should have the opportunity to establish homeownership—especially those from disadvantaged communities. But we need to be strategic about where we build new housing: density belongs along real transit corridors and near major employment centers—not in remote communities, and not in flood or fire zones. In Corte Madera, Eli built a coalition to support reasonable pro-housing policies that resulted in the approval of the largest affordable housing development in Corte Madera’s history, while at the same time preserving the community’s small-town charm and natural beauty—policies that all local communities should be empowered to pursue.

The teacher went on to suggest that schools should not be closed on the holiest day in Judaism—a recognition that generations of Jewish students and parents have fought so hard to achieve.&nbsp;“This disturbing incident brings forth so many feelings, and I wish I could say surprise was one of them. I experienced antisemitic remarks from my peers when I was a student at Redwood High School, but in that era, I would never have imagined hearing such things from my teachers—the people I trusted to be my first line of protection from hate when I was at school.
